A deadly collision between two semi-trucks shut down State Route 20 in Grass Valley on Wednesday, spilling diesel fuel and prompting an extended roadway closure.

Grass Valley, CA – At least one person was killed after a collision involving two semi-trucks on State Route 20 in Grass Valley late Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred on SR-20 near Rex Reservoir Road, adjacent to a Taco Bell and about three miles west of McCourtney Road, at around 10:55 a.m. on November 26, 2025.
CHP logs indicate that a tanker semi-truck and another semi-truck collided, blocking all westbound lanes. Debris from the crash was scattered across the roadway, and responders immediately transferred the incident to fire personnel due to its severity. A report also noted that the blue semi may have been driving recklessly in the moments leading up to the collision.
At least one person was confirmed deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased party was not immediately released pending next of kin notification. No additional injuries or arrests were reported.
Officials stated that a saddlebag on one of the trucks ruptured, spilling approximately 40 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway. Emergency crews implemented a full closure of SR-20, issued a SigAlert, and established detours while coordinating hazardous materials and tow services. The closure led to significant traffic delays, with multiple agencies assisting at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
