Police officers responded to Douglas Drive at Rainer Way north of Highway 76 after they were notified about a pedestrian crash around 10 p.m. on April 10.

Oceanside, CA – A 57-year-old man died after he was struck by a car Friday night while crossing a street in Oceanside, the Oceanside Police Department reported.
Police officers responded to Douglas Drive at Rainer Way north of Highway 76 after they were notified about a pedestrian crash around 10 p.m. on April 10.
The officers found a man unconscious with severe head trauma. The officers attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was only identified as a 57-year-old Oceanside resident.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 28-year-old man was driving his vehicle north on Douglas Drive at a green traffic signal when the 57-year-old man attempted to cross the street north of the intersection with Rainier Way outside a marked crosswalk.
The driver stopped after the collision and cooperated with the police. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be contributing factors.
OPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
