The grisly incident was reported at around 12:45 p.m. near East Coast Highway and Newport Coast Drive, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.
Reportedly, a vehicle struck a pedestrian in the westbound lanes of Coast Highway, west of the intersection, in unclear circumstances.
Despite life-saving measures by bystanders to the pedestrian, the victim died at the scene.
The identity of the deceased was withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
