Nevada County, CA – Brian Ibanez, 29, of Grass Valley, was among three people injured in a deadly Tesla crash on Highway 49 in Nevada County Friday afternoon.
According to California Highway Patrol, the collision took place just before 4:45 p.m. December 19, on Highway 49 north of the South Yuba River overpass.
Ibanez was reportedly driving a black Tesla Model 3 northbound on Highway 49 amid heavy rain and wet road conditions when he lost control and crashed off the east side of the highway. The vehicle landed nearly 15 feet down an embankment and hit two trees.
The CHP officers and the firefighters responded to the site of the collision and helped those involved.
A juvenile passenger in the vehicle died at the scene. Ibanez and two other juveniles in the car were transported to Sutter Roseville Hospital and UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries.
The identity of the deceased juvenile was not immediately released.
The highway was not shut down as the vehicle was off the roadway and not blocking any lanes.
The exact cause of the deadly crash is under investigation.
