Murrieta, CA – A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning in Murrieta, authorities reported.

The accident occurred around 8:51 p.m. on September 9, 2026, at Winchester Road and Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

According to the sheriff’s department, a Southwest Sheriff’s Station deputy was conducting a traffic stop while outside his patrol car when he was hit by a passing vehicle traveling at an unknown speed.

The deputy was taken to Inland Valley Hospital with unspecified injuries. He was in stable condition.

The driver involved in the crash reportedly continued driving after the accident but was arrested shortly after by CHP officers.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
