Gonzales, CA. — Several people were injured Friday morning in a three-vehicle collision involving a transit bus on the edge of Gonzales, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said the crash occurred when a man driving a Kia sedan northbound on the Old Stage Road overcrossing ran a stop sign and illegally passed a Monterey-Salinas Transit Rides bus, crossing into the southbound lane.
The Kia then collided head-on with a southbound GMC pickup truck occupied by a woman and two juveniles.
The impact caused the Kia to spin and crash into the MST bus.
The truck driver suffered moderate injuries, and a juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries.
Both were transported to a hospital.
The Kia driver and a female passenger suffered major injuries and were also hospitalized.
Ten passengers on the MST bus, which was headed to La Casa Adult Day Health Center in Salinas, were evaluated.
No serious injuries were reported among the bus passengers or driver, MST officials said.
The bus later transported the passengers back home.
CHP said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.
The incident remains under investigation.
