Moorpark, CA – One person was injured in a three-vehicle collision involving a dump truck on Tuesday afternoon near Moorpark, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:21 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, on westbound State Route 118 at Hitch Boulevard.
CHP dispatch logs indicate the collision involved a Peterbilt dump truck, a black SUV, and a Toyota Highlander. The incident was reported as a head-on collision.
Emergency callers reported that an occupant inside the SUV was trapped and that Good Samaritans were attempting to free the individual while smoke poured from the vehicle’s engine. Firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted with the rescue. The individual sustained moderate to major injuries in the crash.
The Toyota Highlander sustained major front-end damage and was towed from the scene, while a heavy-duty tow truck was requested to remove the damaged dump truck.
The collision temporarily blocked both eastbound and westbound lanes of State Route 118, with traffic diverted around the scene. By approximately 4:01 p.m., all lanes had reopened.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
