Monterey County, CA.- One person was killed in vehicle crash with a bicycle in Monterey County on Friday morning, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The Monterey County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Seth Pollack, 66, of Monterey, the founder of the California State University, Monterey Bay's (CSUMB) Service Learning Institute
Authorities said the accident happened on 17 Mile Drive and Crespi Lane at around 9:17 a.m. December 5, 2025.
According to California Highway Patrol, a 62-year-old woman from Pebble Beach was driving a black Toyota SUV southbound on 17 Mile Drive when she tried to make a left turn onto Crespi Lane and crashed head-on with Pollack, who was riding a bicycle west in the eastbound lane.
Firefighters attempted life-saving measures but Pollack sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
The CHP reported that alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played a role in the incident.
No further details were immediately released.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

There is need for continued sensitization and introduction of stringent measures to help curb the rising cases of traffic-related injuries and fatalities. Bicyclists are especially safer when there are dedicated bike lanes to reduce interaction between bicyclists and other traffic.
