Miles Heagy Injured After DUI Driver Causes Collision on Hilltop Drive and Interstate 5 in Redding

According to the Police Department, the wreck took place around 7:55 p.m. on the Hilltop Drive overpass at Interstate 5.

Redding, CA. – 49-year-old Miles Heagy of Idaho was hospitalized, and 68-year-old Sheila Acker of Redding was arrested after a DUI collision that happened Tuesday evening in Redding.

According to the Redding Police Department, the wreck took place around 7:55 p.m. on the Hilltop Drive overpass at Interstate 5.

Authorities said Acker was driving an SUV on Hilltop when she failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The vehicle broke through a fence and guardrail, traveled down an embankment, and crashed into a semi- driven northbound on by Heagy.

The force of the impact caused the semi-truck to overturn.

Acker was trapped inside her car.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported Heagy to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

Acker was extricated and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Redding police determined that Acker was heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash. Police officers arrested her after she was medically cleared at the hospital.

Some traffic lanes in the area were closed for a significant period as Caltrans worked to clear the scene and repair the damage caused to the roadway and guardrail.
