Merced, CA – A California Highway Patrol officer was seriously injured in a collision involving a big rig in Merced on Wednesday morning.
According to the authorities, the wreck occurred on Highway 59 near Turlock Road on Wednesday, August 5.
Preliminary reports indicate that a CHP officer was driving in the area when he was involved in a crash with a semi-truck. The officer was trapped in the wreckage after the accident.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and helped extricate the officer.
The officer was then rushed to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
The operator of the big rig was uninjured and remained at the scene after the collision.
The highway was expected to be shut down for hours as authorities worked to clear the scene. The cause of the collision remained under investigation.
