Police said the man was walking across the street outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by a passing vehicle.

Escondido, CA – The authorities have identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle on El Norte Parkway in Escondido last week on Thursday.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office identified the pedestrian as Mauro Castellanos Mata, a 60-year-old resident of San Marcos.
Authorities said Castellanos Mata was crossing the street when he was hit by a car midblock in the 1800 block of West El Norte Parkway at about 7:35 p.m. on Thursday, October 16.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8:00 p.m.

Escondido, CA – A 60-year-old man was struck and killed by a car Thursday evening while crossing the street midblock in Escondido, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 7:35 p.m. on El Norte Parkway near West Country Club Lane, according to Escondido police.
Police said the man was walking across the street outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by a passing vehicle.
He died at the scene before paramedics could transport him to a hospital.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities said that drugs and alcohol were not contributing factors.
