Marin County, CA – Authorities have identified the 75-year-old bicyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Marin County on Saturday morning.
Daniel Irvin Fred, a Novato resident, was the victim killed in the accident that was reported at about 4:30 p.m. February 7, on San Antonio Road near the Sonoma County line, according to the Marin County Coroner’s Office.
The CHP reported that Fred was riding a Trek bicycle southbound on San Antonio Road when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander that was also traveling south.
The Toyota was driven by Kevin Simonis, 31, of Petaluma, who stopped at the scene and contacted 911. Simonis also tried to give CPR to Fred before emergency crews arrived.
Marin County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived a few minutes later and Fred was declared deceased at the scene.
CHP reports that alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have factored in the incident and no arrests were made.
The CHP officers are actively investigating to ascertain the cause of the deadly Marin County bicycle accident.
