Carlsbad, Calif. – A 25-year-old passenger was killed after a driver suspected of driving under the influence crashed his vehicle into a parked excavator along Highway 78 in Carlsbad on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say 21-year-old Valeriano Gregorio Aguilar was operating a black Nissan Sentra when, for some reason, he veered off the highway and crashed into the construction equipment along eastbound Highway 78 near El Camino Real.
Aguilar’s passenger, Identified only as a 25-year-old man, sustained major injuries and died at a hospital.
Aguilar was arrested on suspicion of several crimes, including felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Oceanside, Calif. – One person was killed and another hospitalized after a crash involving a parked excavator on Highway 78 in Oceanside Sunday afternoon.
The Oceanside Fire Department responded to the wreck at around 4:15 p.m. on the eastbound Highway 78 near El Camino Real.
Reportedly, a vehicle with two occupants slammed into a parked excavator in unclear circumstances.
Two parties suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment, where one of them was pronounced dead.
The identities of the victims were not immediately disclosed.
No additional details about the wreck were provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
