Oakland, CA. – At least one person sustained major injuries in a traffic collision that happened Sunday night on a freeway in Oakland, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident transpired around 10:40 p.m. on the westbound 580 Freeway at the Grand Avenue off-ramp.
Two vehicles were involved in the accident.
The collision happened when one of the drivers allegedly fell asleep while waiting for traffic ahead to clear and did not notice when the roadway was back open.
Oakland firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene.
At least one person suffered major injuries in the wreck. The patient was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the collision.
