2 People Killed in Head-On Collision on I-80 Freeway in Contra Costa County
Contra Costa County, California (March 23, 2022) – Two people who died in a head-on collision on Sunday morning in Contra Costa County have been identified.
The deadly collision happened on I-80 Freeway near Carquinez Bridge at Cummings Skyway at about 3:41 a.m.
Adyson James, 29, of Emeryville, and Ruiju Ma, 38, of Vallejo were killed in the wrong-way collision.
A Honda SUV was traveling west on eastbound I-80 when it collided head-on with an oncoming Tesla Model 3 near Pomona Street.
A moment later, a Toyota Camry traveling eastbound slammed into the SUV and Tesla, according to the CHP.
At least one of the vehicles caught fire following the crash.
The Camry driver suffered minor injuries.
CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
