Madera Teen Killed, Multiple Others Hurt in 2-Vehicle Collision at Ave 17 and Rd 28 1/2

Madera, CA – An 18-year-old woman died, and several others were hospitalized after a traffic collision that happened Tuesday night at an intersection in Madera.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 9:45 p.m. on June 30, 2026, at Avenue 17 and Road 28 1/2.

CHP officers responded to the scene and located a 2028 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2019 Jeep Wrangler involved in the accident.

According to a preliminary investigation, an 18-year-old Madera woman was driving the Chevrolet eastbound on Avenue 17, approaching Road 28 1/2, and a 25-year-old Madera woman was driving the Jeep southbound on Road 28 1/2, approaching Avenue 17.

The Chevrolet driver failed to observe the stop sign on Avenue 17 and proceeded to enter the intersection. The driver of the Jeep, who had the right-of-way, struck the Chevrolet’s front end with her Jeep’s right side.

The impact sent both cars southeast onto the front lawn of a nearby home where they crashed through a chain-link fence, hit a parked white Chevrolet Colorado and a support post for the home’s front porch. The Jeep overturned.

The 18-year-old Madera woman died at the scene. One of her passengers, a 19-year-old man who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries. Another passenger, a 21-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

The Jeep was occupied by the driver and her 10-year-old passenger. Both sustained minor to moderate injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
