Lucerne Valley, CA — Two people were injured after two vehicles collided in a head-on crash on State Route 18 in Lucerne Valley Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Responding crews found a Robertson’s double-tanker semi-truck and a BMW SUV involved in the incident.
The semi sustained extensive damage, with its cab overturning and one of its tanker trailers coming to rest on its side.
The BMW driver was airlifted to an unknown hospital for treatment. Firefighters also had to extricate the semi-truck driver from the overturned cab. The driver was freed by approximately 11:20 a.m. and was able to walk from the truck to a fire engine while crews waited for an air ambulance.
The circumstances that led to the head-on collision were not immediately released. CHP did not state whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors.
Both lanes of Highway 18 remained closed as of approximately 11:28 a.m. for an undetermined period while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.
The closure was expected to cause significant delays in the area, and motorists were advised to seek alternate routes while crews cleared the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
