Lassen County, CA – Two people were killed in a head-on collision on US 395 in Lassen County Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 7:31 p.m. on February 15, 2026, along southbound US 395 in the northbound lanes near the state line, just north of the agricultural station and Border Town area.
CHP reports indicate a northbound vehicle was traveling in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with another vehicle. The crash involved a tan Subaru Impreza and a white Hyundai Santa Fe. Following the impact, at least one of the vehicles caught fire, prompting reports of visible flames at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that two people were killed in the collision. One party was found unresponsive inside a vehicle, and CPR was administered to a second individual at the scene. Both victims were pronounced dead. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the Lassen County crash remains under investigation. It is not yet clear why the vehicle entered opposing traffic lanes.
Emergency responders, including Truckee Meadows Fire, REMSA, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, and the coroner’s office, responded to the scene. The Nevada Highway Patrol was also notified due to the crash’s proximity to the state line.
The collision led to significant disruptions along US 395 as authorities worked to extinguish the fire, investigate the crash, and clear the wreckage. Both vehicles sustained major damage, including burn and front-end damage.
