Lake Forest, CA – 22-year-old Joel Mendez Camargo was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash that killed a man Thursday night in Lake Forest.
The wreck took place around 9:39 p.m. on August 6, 2026, at El Toro Road and Via Ridgeline Road.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, two vehicles, one driven by a man in his 70s and another driven by MendezCamargo, a Lake Forest resident, collided at the intersection for an unknown reason.
Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene.
The elder man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities arrested MendezCamargo and booked him into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
