La Jolla, CA – A 69-year-old man was killed, and two drivers were injured Monday afternoon when an SUV and a compact car collided on Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla, according to authorities.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased person as 69-year-old Forest Ockletree Jr.
The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 in the 1500 block of Torrey Pines Road.
San Diego PD said a 56-year-old man was driving a Land Rover northbound and attempting a midblock U-turn as a 68-year-old woman approached in a southbound Mitsubishi Mirage.
The Land Rover turned into the Mitsubishi’s path, and the Mitsubishi struck the SUV’s front right side.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to the scene and worked to extricate those involved in the collision.
Ockletree was a passenger in the Mitsubishi. He was extricated from the vehicle but was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:55 p.m. The Medical Examiner determined that he died from multiple blunt force trauma.
The 68-year-old woman suffered two broken arms, fractures to both femurs, a fractured pelvis, and facial fractures. The 56-year-old driver complained of pain. Both drivers were hospitalized.
No contributing conditions were listed in the Medical Examiner’s report, and Ockletree’s manner of death was classified as an accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the San Diego Police Department.
