Klamath County, OR – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 31 in Klamath County early Sunday morning, according to Oregon State Police.

Preliminary investigation by authorities indicated a southbound Dodge Ram 1500, driven by 56-year-old Roland Lea Buckman of Bend, attempted to pass another vehicle in a passing lane before losing control. The pickup slid off the roadway, caught its driver's side tires in a ditch, rolled, went airborne, and ultimately came to rest against a tree.
A passenger in the Dodge, 62-year-old Randy Laverne Samples of Bend, was declared deceased at the scene. The vehicle's operator, Buckman, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. No arrests were reported in connection with this collision.
Roadway conditions and speed are considered primary factors in the crash, according to the preliminary findings from state police.
Oregon State Police responded to the scene and were assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation during the investigation.
Highway 31 was impacted for approximately three hours while personnel worked on-scene and conducted their investigation, causing temporary delays for motorists.
