Kings County, CA – Five people were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 41 in Kings County on Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred on Highway 41 near York Avenue at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, about 15 miles south of Avenal.
Authorities say a Chevy Silverado was traveling southbound on the highway when it veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Prius. The impact caused the Silverado to overturn onto the shoulder, where it caught fire.
The driver and three passengers in the Silverado were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Prius, identified as 35-year-old Jose Ramos of Oakdale, was also killed in the crash.
Officials said it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene to assist and manage the incident.
The crash caused significant disruption in the area as authorities worked to clear the scene and conduct an initial investigation.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
