Lane County, OR – The Oregon State Police has identified a driver killed in crash about two weeks ago on Highway 99 in Lane County as 9-year-old Josef Alexander Ward from Creswell.

The traffic collision was reported just before 3:30 p.m. on April 7 on the southbound State Route 99 near milepost 1.5.

 A preliminary investigation determined that a southbound Kenworth log truck driven by a 52-year-old Cottage Grove man slowed to make a left turn when it was struck from behind by a southbound Toyota Matrix driven by Ward.

Ward was transported to an area hospital where he was later declared deceased. The Kenworth’s driver was reportedly not injured in the crash.

The highway was impacted for about 2.5 hours during the on-scene investigation. 

An investigation is underway.
