Harney County, OR – An elderly man was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision in Burns, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on October 20 on Highway 20 at Rattlesnake Road near milepost 144.

Police said James Joseph Hammeke, 91, of Burns, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe when he entered the highway from Rattlesnake Road and was struck by a westbound Freightliner commercial motor vehicle and trailer.

Hammeke was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Freightliner, Jaswinder Singh Sidhu, 45, of Oregon City, was uninjured in the accident.

The accident closed the highway for about three hours.

The authorities are investigating the accident.
