Pomona, CA. – 57-year-old Ingrid Zapata died early Monday morning when a loose tire crashed through her car's windshield on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Pomona, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner reported.
The accident was first reported just before 2:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of the freeway near the Garey Avenue off-ramp.
Authorities said Zapata was driving her white Lexus sedan eastbound on 60 Freeway when a truck heading westbound lost its tire.
The tire crossed over to the eastbound lanes and crashed through the windshield of Zapata's car.
Zapata was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators shut down all eastbound lanes of 60 Freeway as they worked the scene.

Pomona, CA. – A driver died after a tire came off of a pickup truck and hit the windshield of another car early Monday morning on a freeway in Pomona.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. on the eastbound 60 Freeway near the Garey Avenue off-ramp.
Authorities said a tire came off of a blue pickup truck traveling westbound on the freeway and crossed over to the eastbound side, where it struck the windshield of an eastbound white Lexus.
The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lexus sustained a damaged windshield and partial roof collapse.
The tire was located in the roadway.
Investigators closed all eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway following the crash.
