Huntington Beach, CA – Woman Killed, Man Arrested after Rear-End Collision on PCH Sends Car into Wetlands

Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI After Deadly Collision on PCH in Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach, CA – A 54-year-old woman died after her car was rear-ended by a DUI suspect Wednesday night, leaving the vehicle partially submerged in the wetlands in Huntington Beach.

According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, the wreck was reported around 10:40 p.m. on April 15 in the northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway near Warner Avenue.

Authorities said a 24-year-old Long Beach man was driving a BMW sedan northbound on the highway behind a Kia Soul driven by a 54-year-old Long Beach woman. For an unknown reason, the BMW rear-ended the Kia, pushing it off the roadway and into the wetlands. The SUV overturned onto its roof and was mostly submerged in the wetlands.

Huntington Beach lifeguards and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and removed the woman from the SUV. The victim was taken to a hospital but later died. It was not immediately clear if her death was caused by injuries sustained in the crash or if she drowned.

The Long Beach man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

No other details were available, but an investigation is ongoing.
