
Hickman, CA.- A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in the Hickman area in Stanislaus County early Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place on Lake Road near Meier Road at around 4:40 a.m.
According to CHP, a 70-year-old Atwater man was driving a Chevy eastbound on Lake Road when he swerved in an attempt to avoid a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian also moved into the Chevy's path and was struck.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and found the pedestrian with major. The victim was sadly declared deceased at the scene. He was only identified as a 39-year-old man from Modesto.
The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured in the accident. He was not suspected to have been driving under the influence. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
