Glendale, CA – One person sustained major injuries after a multi-vehicle collision that happened Wednesday evening in Glendale.
According to the California Highway Patrol logs, the pileup took place around 7 p.m., March 4, on westbound State Route 134 just east of Zoo Drive.
According to the report, a Volkswagen Jetta hit two other vehicles under unclear circumstances.
One person sustained major injuries, including a possible broken leg. The patient was alert and breathing. That person was outside their vehicle when they were hit, as per the report.
The No. 1 lane remained partially blocked for an unknown period following the accident.
Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Glendale recently ranked 47th out of 60 for total fatal and injury victims (where 1st is the highest crash rate), indicating it is generally safer for occupants than many similar-sized cities. However, the city faces a persistent crisis regarding its elderly population, historically ranking 1st in the state for pedestrian-involved crashes among those aged 65 and older. The data highlights a significant “safety gap” between drivers and those on foot. While the city ranks exceptionally well for preventing alcohol-involved crashes (ranking 52nd) and speeding-related injuries (also ranking 52nd), pedestrian safety remains a critical concern, at 5th worst.
