Fullerton remains a high-risk transit hub in North Orange County, primarily due to its position at the intersection of the SR-91 and SR-57, one of Southern California’s most accident-prone interchanges. According to 2024–2025 SWITRS data and city safety audits, Fullerton consistently ranks among the top five cities in Orange County for crash density, recording approximately 716 injury-involved collisions annually. A significant concern for the city is its high rate of pedestrian and nighttime incidents, with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) previously ranking Fullerton 12th out of 61 similar cities for pedestrian victims.
Local data indicate that Harbor Boulevard and Euclid Street, particularly near Cal State Fullerton, are primary hotspots for distracted driving and student-related accidents. Additionally, DUI-related crashes among young adults (ages 21–34) remain a critical focus, with the city ranking in the worst 25% for this category.
