Fresno County, CA – One person was killed and others were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash involving a suspected DUI driver on Highway 180 in Fresno County Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
The fatal collision occurred on Highway 180 near Old Oak Road, close to Dunlap, on Wednesday afternoon, officials reported.
Investigators say a 41-year-old man was driving a Tesla with two small children, both under the age of five, seated in the back when he reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle driven by 34-year-old Misty Lynn.
The force of the crash sent Lynn’s vehicle about 30 feet down a mountainside. Lynn suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The Tesla driver sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The two children in his car were properly secured in safety seats and were taken to a hospital as a precaution. Authorities later arrested the Tesla driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Officials say impairment by drugs is suspected to have played a role in the crash, though the exact circumstances leading up to the collision remain under review.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to provide medical assistance, secure the area, and begin their investigation.
