Authorities reported that a 2013 Honda Fit was stopped at a stop sign on Scott Road when it tried to turn left onto SR 525 and was hit by a Mack truck heading north.
Freeland, WA – One person was killed in a crash between two vehicles on State Route 525 near Freeland on Thursday morning.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident was reported at around 8:25 a.m. September 24, at the intersection of Scott Road.
Authorities reported that a 2013 Honda Fit was stopped at a stop sign on Scott Road when it tried to turn left onto SR 525 and was hit by a Mack truck heading north.
As a result of the crash, the Honda flipped and came to a rest on its roof on the southbound shoulder.
The driver of the Honda, identified as Geza Kisch, 76, of Riverside, was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Mack truck, only identified as a 27-year-old Tualip resident, was not injured in the incident.
According to WSP, impairment was not suspected in the incident but failure to yield was identified as the major factor.
The accident led to the closure of SR 525 in both directions for almost four hours as authorities examined and cleared the scene.
The accident is still being investigated by the Washington State Patrol.
