Whitewater, CA – 1 Injured in Crash with Big Rig on Interstate 10

Investigations revealed that a Mercedes GLC 300 driven by an 80-year-old Palm Desert man, was traveling west on I-10 when, for unspecified reasons, the driver lost control and sideswiped a Peterbilt semi-truck driven by a 40-year-old Coachella man.

Whitewater, CA – One person was injured in a crash involving a big rig in Whitewater on Monday morning, according to a report by the Riverside County Fire Department.

At around 10 a.m. July 27, authorities responded to reports of an accident on westbound Interstate 10 near the Whitewater off-ramp.

Investigations revealed that a Mercedes GLC 300 driven by an 80-year-old Palm Desert man, was traveling west on I-10 when, for unspecified reasons, the driver lost control and sideswiped a Peterbilt semi-truck driven by a 40-year-old Coachella man.

The big rig’s driver reportedly swerved to avoid the Mercedes but the rig’s trailer overturned and came to a rest blocking the No. 4 lane.

According to a CHP report, one person was transported to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected to have played any role in the accident. The elderly driver of the Mercedes is believed to have fell asleep behind the wheel.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
