Florence, AZ – One person was killed, and two others were injured in a head-on collision on State Route 79 between Florence and Catalina Wednesday evening, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, near milepost 103 on State Route 79.

According to DPS, a vehicle crossed the median and entered the path of another vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision. The driver of the vehicle that crossed the median was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a Tucson hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities said impairment does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

State Route 79 was completely closed for several hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
