Fairfax, CA – The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Fairfax on Tuesday evening has been identified

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 91-year-old George Pikkarainen of Fairfax

Pikkarainen was hit by a vehicle at about 6:45 p.m. on June 16, 2026, on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard east of Shadow Creek Court.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Pikkarainen was crossing Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in a northbound direction when he was struck by a westbound white Volkswagen Passat driven by a 22-year-old man from Martinez.

Pikkarainen suffered multiple traumatic injuries in the collision. First responders rendered emergency medical aid at the scene, but he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Volkswagen was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not injured. No arrests were made.

California Highway Patrol officers, Marin County Sheriff’s Office personnel, firefighters, and emergency medical responders responded to the scene and conducted the investigation.

Investigators said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the deadly crash. The crash remains under investigation.
