Live Oak, California (October 8, 2022) – Esmeralda Perez, 25, was arrested following a crash that left one other person dead last month in Sutter County, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said.

The wreck occurred at about 4:24 p.m. September 17, on Highway 99 and Ivy Street.

A red Jeep Cherokee driven by Perez was involved in the collision with a brown Toyota Camry driven by Beatriz Curiel.

It’s unclear what led up to the incident.

Perez was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident.

Perez was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities determined that Perez had been driving recklessly over twice the speed limit when the collision took place.

Perez was arrested on Thursday, October 6, and booked into the Sutter County Jail for vehicular manslaughter. Her bail was set at $100,000.
