Encinitas, CA – One person was killed early Saturday in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near Leucadia, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at approximately 2:58 a.m. on northbound I-5 just south of Leucadia Boulevard.
CHP reported that a dark-colored SUV, a Nissan Sentra, and a third vehicle were involved in the crash.
Responding crews located the SUV in the HOV lane facing the wrong way. Â Another vehicle went off the right side of the freeway.
At least one person was killed in the collision, as per the CHP.
Information about additional injuries was not immediately available.
Northbound I-5 lanes were closed following the crash as emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene. Traffic was held near Leucadia Boulevard, with some lanes gradually reopened. By approximately 5:28 a.m., most freeway lanes were open, although the No. 4 lane remained closed.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal Encinitas crash remain under investigation.
