San Diego, CA. – An 86-year-old cyclist was critically injured Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in the Barrio Logan area of San Diego, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The crash occurred around 3:49 p.m. near Alamitos Avenue and Main Street.
Investigators said the man was riding his bicycle north on Alamitos Avenue when he entered the westbound lanes of Main Street and was hit by a 39-year-old man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The cyclist suffered multiple serious injuries, including fractures to his scapula, ankle, and foot, as well as a blood clot around the brain.
He was taken to a local hospital in life-threatening condition.
SDPD's Traffic Division is investigating the crash.
