Corona, CA — A man died Friday night after he was hit by two vehicles on the eastbound 91 Freeway in Corona, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deceased person was identified as 48-year-old Eddie Chavarria IV of Riverside.
The crash occurred at about 10:27 p.m. on September 18 on eastbound State Route 91, approximately 885 feet west of South Promenade Avenue.
According to CHP, Chavarria IV was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 in the freeway’s toll lanes near the median when the pickup became disabled. He parked the truck in the No. 2 toll lane before getting out. He then entered the No. 1 lane of the mainline freeway, where he was struck by a Honda HR-V. A Honda Civic subsequently struck him as well.
Chavarria IV was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:40 p.m., according to the Riverside County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The drivers of the Honda HR-V and Honda Civic stopped after the collisions and were not injured. CHP said there was no indication that either driver was intoxicated.
Chavarria’s sobriety remained undetermined pending an autopsy.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol – Riverside Station.
