Decatur, TX – Two people were airlifted to a hospital after being involved in a collision with a big near Decatur on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Wise County EMS, the wreck happened on US 287 shortly after 2:30 p.m. March 10.
Authorities reported that an 18-wheeler and an SUV were involved in the collision in the northbound lanes of US 287. Two people were trapped in the SUV after the collision and had to be extricated by firefighters.
The two patients were found to have sustained critical injuries in the crash. Careflite 5 and PHI Med-10 airlifted the patients to Medical City Denton for treatment.
Two people were riding in the big rig and were not injured in the accident.
First responders including Decatur Fire Department and Wise County EMS assisted the involved parties at the scene.
The northbound lanes of US 287 were shut down for hours as crews worked at the scene. It’s unclear how long the closure lasted.
Authorities have not released further details, including the contributing factors and the identities of those involved. The investigation is currently ongoing.
