Sonoma County, California (July 14, 2023) – At least one person died, and another was injured in a fiery Highway 101 wrong-way crash that happened Thursday night near Cloverdale.

The California Highway Patrol said a car was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway when, at around 9:44 p.m., the vehicle collided with another car near Canyon Road.

One of the cars caught fire while two people were still trapped inside.

Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene.

At least one of the trapped victims was declared dead at the scene.

At least one other person suffered serious injuries.

No other details were given, but an investigation is ongoing.
