, CA.- Two people were seriously hurt in a crash that involved a wrong-way driver in Arroyo Grande early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision took place on Highway 101, just north of Grand Avenue, at around 12:43 a.m.

According to the CHP, David Berdahl was driving north on southbound Highway 101 in a 2008 Ford Ranger when he collided head-on with an oncoming 2009 Jeep Liberty driven by Anthony Padrons.

Emergency crew pulled out Berdahl from the Ford and transported him to Adventist Health Sierra hospital with major injuries.

The Jeep burst into flames following the collision but Padron was able to exit on his own.

He was taken to the Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash, according to the CHP.

The accident is under investigation.
