Man Airlifted to Hospital Following Crash on Jalama Road near Lompoc

Lompoc, CA. — A man was critically injured Saturday afternoon when his vehicle crashed over an embankment near Lompoc, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The crash occurred about half a mile south of Jalama Road, where the car came to rest entangled in trees and brush, approximately 40 feet up a steep embankment.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and used Jaws-of-Life hydraulic tools to free the trapped driver.

The man was airlifted by a Calstar medical helicopter to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries around 1:41 p.m.

Santa Barbara County Fire, Lompoc firefighters, and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

Jalama Road was temporarily closed following the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
