Coos County, OR – A 61-year-old Coos Bay man, identified as Robert Andrew Gallagher, was killed after being struck by a motorhome on Highway 241 in Coos County Tuesday night, according to the Oregon State Police.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2026, on Highway 241 near Chamberlain Road.

The preliminary investigation found that a white Forest River motorhome driven by 76-year-old Mary Geen Murphy of Coos Bay was traveling northbound on Highway 241 when it struck Robert Gallagher.

OSP said Gallagher was in the northbound lane of travel when he was struck. The area was unlit, and witnesses said Gallagher was crossing the roadway without reflective clothing or lighting.

Gallagher was pronounced dead at the scene. Murphy was not injured. No arrests were reported.

Highway 241 was impacted for approximately three hours while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation.

The fatal Coos County crash remains under investigation.
