The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2026, near milepost 48 on Highway 126W.

Lane County, OR – A 52-year-old man was killed after being struck by a pickup truck while walking on Highway 126W in Lane County Tuesday night, according to the Oregon State Police.
OSP identified the deceased as Robert Bryan Richardson, 52, of Veneta.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2026, near milepost 48 on Highway 126W.
The preliminary investigation found that a silver Toyota Tacoma driven by 24-year-old Christian Michael McCawley of Elmira was traveling westbound on Highway 126W when it struck Richardson.
Police said Richardson was walking westbound in the westbound lane of travel. Investigators said Richardson was wearing dark-colored clothing and was in an unlit section of the road.
Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene. McCawley was not injured. No arrests were reported.
Oregon State Police responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. The agency was assisted by the Lane Fire Authority, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, and Oregon Department of Transportation.
Highway 126W was impacted for approximately two hours while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation.
The fatal Lane County crash remains under investigation.
