Clatsop County, OR – A man was killed in a multi-vehicle collision that left several members of the Oregon National Guard injured on Saturday night in Clatsop County.
According to the Oregon State Police, the wreck took place on Highway 30 near milepost 85, at around 8:56 a.m. September 12.
Investigators reported that a black Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling west on the highway when it moved into the eastbound lanes and sideswiped a black Ram 1500 occupied by 4 Oregon National Guard members.
The Ford then crashed into a Ford Transit van that was heading east. The van was carrying 11 Oregon National Guard members.
Another pickup truck traveling behind the van was unable to stop in time and slammed into the Ford and the van.
According to OSP, the driver of the Ford was declared deceased at the scene. He was identified as Markham Marshall Stangland, 65, of Warrenton.
The driver of the van, Raiden Cunningham, 21, of Milwaukie, suffered serious injuries. The operators of the other two trucks, Gregory Louis Wavra, 29, of Longview, Washington, and Jaden Vinay Govindan, 25, of Aloha, were hospitalized with minor injuries.
A total of 18 people occupied the vehicles at the time of the crash. At least 16 of them, including 13 service members, were injured in the accident, prompting response from multiple emergency agencies.
The OSP is still working to ascertain the circumstances of the accident.
