Clatsop County, OR – A 77-year-old Portland man was killed and multiple others were injured after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 26 in Clatsop County Friday evening, according to the Oregon State Police.

The five-vehicle wreck happened at approximately 5:18 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, on Highway 26 near milepost 24.

According to OSP, Henry Herbert Greenwood, 77, of Portland, was driving a gray Honda Fit eastbound when, for some reason, the Honda crossed into the westbound lane and sideswiped a black Tesla Model S, and then collided head-on with a black Toyota Tacoma driven by 30-year-old Samantha Reanne Martindale of Molalla, which was following the Tesla.

The Honda then veered back into the eastbound lane, making an eastbound black Volkswagen Golf, driven by 35-year-old Brandon J. Troost of Portland, attempt to avoid it. Unfortunately, an eastbound Ford F-350, operated by 51-year-old Scott Michael Harrington of Hillsboro, rear-ended the Golf.

Greenwood was flown to a Portland-area hospital by Life Flight, where he was pronounced deceased. A passenger in the Honda was also flown to a Portland-area hospital with serious injuries. Martindale was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, while four passengers in the Toyota were taken to a local hospital with minor to serious injuries. Troost and a passenger in the Volkswagen reported minor injuries but declined transportation. Harrington was not injured.

No arrests were reported in the information provided. Authorities have not determined why the Honda crossed into the westbound lane.

Highway 26 was impacted for approximately five hours while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation and emergency crews assisted those involved.

The fatal Clatsop County crash remains under investigation.
