In Chula Vista, an estimated 800-900 crashes were reported in 2024, with specific roads like Broadway Street, H Street, and Main Street noted as having a higher incidence of accidents. Telegraph Canyon Road is another area of concern, prompting the Chula Vista Police Department to release specific data showing between 56 and 71 crashes annually from 2020-2024 on that stretch, with a total of 8 fatalities reported there between 2020 and August 2025. Traffic collision data from the City of Chula Vista's dashboard provides detailed statistics on crash types, including those involving pedestrians, with over 1,500 “no pedestrians involved” incidents reported across various years. The most dangerous times for crashes are during the morning and evening rush hours (7-9 AM and 4-7 PM) due to commuter traffic, while Fridays and weekends see an increased risk, partly due to a higher chance of impaired drivers. The leading cause of traffic fatalities statewide in California is distracted driving, which is likely a significant factor in local crashes as well. Chula Vista also averages about 55 bicycle accidents per year, making it one of the cities with a higher rate of such incidents in San Diego County, after San Diego itself.
