Traffic collisions in San Diego County, California, continue to pose a serious public safety challenge, with recent data reflecting thousands of incidents annually. In 2024, the county reported approximately 12,838 crashes, resulting in 285 fatalities and over 17,386 injuries, according to local traffic safety analyses. These figures highlight the risks on busy highways like I-5 and I-805, as well as urban streets, where rear-end collisions account for nearly 30% of incidents. Vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists, face heightened dangers, contributing significantly to severe outcomes. Distracted driving, speeding, and impaired driving remain primary factors. While statewide trends show slight declines in some categories, San Diego County's rates underscore the ongoing need for enhanced enforcement, infrastructure improvements, and public awareness campaigns to reduce fatalities and injuries on its roads.
