Chula Vista, CA – A young man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 5 in Chula Vista late Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities identified the deceased as 20-year-old Christopher Robert Golembieski of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
The fatal accident occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, south of L Street, at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
According to preliminary investigation findings, Golembieski was operating a motorcycle when he apparently lost control of the bike and was ejected from the motorcycle into the roadway, where he was subsequently struck by multiple passing vehicles.
Christopher Golembieski was killed in the incident. While several other vehicles were involved in the secondary impacts, no other injuries were reported by officials on the scene. No arrests have been announced in connection with the crash.
Emergency personnel and CHP officers were dispatched to the scene immediately following several 911 calls. Responding paramedics contacted Golembieski, but due to the extent of his injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:05 p.m.
The crash resulted in a significant impact on local traffic, as authorities closed portions of the northbound Interstate 5 for several hours to conduct an on-scene investigation and clear the wreckage.
The specific cause of the initial loss of control remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Investigators are working to determine if speed, road conditions, or mechanical issues contributed to the first event.
In 2023, San Diego County recorded 52 motorcycle fatalities and 317 serious injuries, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights that motorcyclists remain significantly overrepresented in traffic deaths, being approximately 28 times more likely to die in a crash than occupants of passenger vehicles per mile traveled.
