Ventura County, CA. – A California Highway Patrol officer was seriously injured in a head-on collision in Ventura on Saturday night.

According to a local news source, the accident happened around 11 p.m. on Grimes Canyon Road.

34-year-old Derek Skinner of Santa Paula was driving a car northbound on Grimes Canyon Road when he drifted into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a CHP patrol car.

A CHP officer and a 40-year-old Chatsworth woman who was inside the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Skinner suffered minor injuries and was checked out at a local hospital. He was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury.

More details on the collision were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
